Optical module definition

The optical module is an optoelectronic device that performs photoelectric and electro-optic conversion. The transmitting end of the optical module converts the electrical signal into an optical signal, and the receiving end converts the optical signal into an electrical signal. Optical modules are classified according to the package type. Common SFP, SFP+, SFF, Gigabit Ethernet interface converters (GBIC), etc.

By function

It includes a light receiving module, an optical transmitting module, an optical transceiver module, and an optical forwarding module.

The main function of the optical transceiver integrated module is to realize photoelectric/electrical and optical conversion, including optical power control, modulation and transmission, signal detection, IV conversion, and limiting amplification and decision regeneration. In addition, anti-counterfeiting information query and TX-disable functions are common. There are: SFP, SFF, SFP+, GBIC, XFP, 1x9, etc.

In addition to the photoelectric conversion function, the optical forwarding module integrates many signal processing functions, such as MUX/DEMUX, CDR, function control, sexual energy acquisition and monitoring. Common optical forwarding modules are: 200/300pin, XENPAK, and X2/XPAK.

Application:

The full name of D/T in English is: datacom/telcom. Data communication mainly includes computer video, data communication and so on. Telcom mainly includes wireless voice communication.

PON: English: passive optical network: passive optical network. Such products are mainly used in access networks in optical fiber network systems. Among them, the triplex product can transmit analog signals in addition to fiber signals.

Optical modules are mainly divided into: GBIC, SFP, SFP+, XFP, SFF, CFP, etc. Optical interface types include SC and LC. But now commonly used are SFP, SFP+, XFP, not GBIC. The reason is that GBIC is bulky and easy to break. And "" SFPs that are commonly used today are small and cheap.

Type: Single mode optical module is suitable for long distance transmission; multimode optical module is suitable for short distance transmission.

Function: The optical module is used as a carrier for transmission between the switch and the device, which is more efficient and safer than the transceiver.
