EPCOS develops low-loss RF filters PCB
EPCOS has newly developed its first low-loss RF filters, model LH58D and LH58D2, specially optimized for mobile TV applications built around the MediaFLO standard. These two new passive RF components are designed to cover MediaFLO channel 53 at 707MHz and channel 55 at 719MHz, the frequency bands defined for Qualcomm’s MediaFLO mobile broadcast technology.
EPCOS highlights that the new series of RF filters features superior electrical performance and sharp frequency selectivity. The components achieve a low insertion loss of merely 3.0dB together with a 5MHz usable passband. Such performance can strongly attenuate unwanted interference signals from various cellular frequency bands, preventing mobile communication signals from contaminating the mobile TV receiving channel. The filters adopt compact patch ceramic packaging, with a footprint of 2.5×2.0mm and a slim profile of only 0.8mm. The ultra-small form factor addresses the strict space limitation inside portable mobile TV handsets.
Miniature RF filters such as LH58D and LH58D impose high requirements on PCB layout. Poor trace routing, ground plane segmentation or impedance mismatch will easily degrade the filter’s low-loss characteristic and weaken out-of-band rejection. ONESEINE TECHNOLOGY CO.LTD focuses on high-frequency PCB fabrication for compact RF filter circuits and mobile TV RF front-end modules. Our manufacturing team strictly controls trace width, clearance, ground vias and impedance tolerance to preserve the original RF performance of small passive components on the printed circuit board.
MediaFLO-based commercial mobile TV services were planned for launch in the United States during the second half of 2006. The MediaFLO architecture allows mobile network operators to offload bandwidth-heavy video broadcast traffic onto dedicated private broadcast networks. This strategy protects the existing cellular infrastructure from overload, reserving network resources for voice calls and mobile internet access. End users with MediaFLO-enabled mobile phones can receive stable real-time video broadcast services. For such mobile TV wireless receivers, high-frequency PCB quality directly determines the overall reception sensitivity. ONESEINE TECHNOLOGY CO.LTD delivers high-precision RF PCB manufacturing solutions to support RF engineers in optimizing signal integrity for mobile TV receiver circuits.
