Aluminum is one of the best materials for making heat sink

LED heat dissipation problem is LED manufacturers the most difficult problem, but can be used aluminum plates, because of the high thermal conductivity of aluminum PCB, heat, and can effectively export the internal heat. Aluminum plate is a unique metal-based CCL, with good thermal conductivity, electrical insulation properties and machinability. We should try to be close to the aluminum base PCB design, reducing the thermal resistance potting segment generated.

The structure of the metal core PCB(Aluminum PCB):
Aluminum base CCL(copper clad laminate) is a kind of raw material of metal PCB, which is consist of copper foil, thermal insulation layer and metal substrate, its structure in three layers:
Circuit Layer: equivalent to ordinary PCB copper clad laminate, thickness of copper foil from loz to 10 oz.
Dielectric Layer: dielectric Layer is a kind of material with thermal insulation and low thermal resistance. thickness from 0.003 "to 0.006" which is the core technology of the aluminum base copper clad laminate. It has achieved the UL certification.
Base Layer: Base layer is metal core, normally it is aluminum base or copper base.

The metal core of the thermal PCB can be aluminum (aluminum core PCB), copper (copper core PCB or a heavy copper PCB) or a mixture of special alloys. The most common is an aluminum core PCB.
The thickness of metal cores in PCB base plates is typically 30 mil - 125 mil, but thicker and thinner plates are possible.
